The Preschool Committee
Hi, I’m Ella.
My eldest attended Potley Hill Preschool for 2.5 years and made the big move to School in September 2019! My youngest is excited to be following her brother’s footsteps & started at preschool in January 2020.
Like all of us are, I was so nervous when my son started preschool for the first time. The first drop-off is always the hardest! (for the parents anyway, right?!)
That being said, from day one, I’ve always had my mind put at ease with Andrea and her wonderful team of ladies, who have never failed to make us, as a family, feel welcomed into preschool & feel involved in all the wonderful fun the children get up to!
With all these opportunities and events, it made it so accessible for myself to become involved with my son’s learning & development. The online Learning Book (available through Parent Plus) is a fantastic way to let the ladies know what we get up to at home & any new milestones met. Adding photos & comments made a great talking point for the staff to get to know us as a family outside of the mad morning dash!
I couldn’t wait to get stuck into the parent involvement. For me, this simply started with selling the raffle tickets the children came home with, contributing to the cake stalls, donating items (where possible) or just my time to help out. I loved knowing that the fundraising at any of these events would be put straight back into the preschool supplies, resources and training and keeping it running in the fantastic way it does!
Not many people know that the setting is Committee led. This means without trustees to form said Committee, the preschool would be unable to run.
I’m more than happy to give a bit of my time to be a trustee (and now Chair person) for this fantastic preschool & I enjoy helping however I can. We meet one evening, each half term (with refreshments) 🤗 To discuss upcoming events and planning these within a great board of trustees really doesn’t take that much time and effort when you’re having fun!
We arrange events for families so we can get together and make friends, outside of the drop off/pick up times! These events are never limited to immediate family; there is Lads Day In/Mums In Days/ Grandparent In Days; all for Mums, Dads, Grandads, Aunts, Uncles etc.
What I am trying to say is that you won’t regret getting stuck in – and helping out wherever you can, however big or small, is something that will make your time as a family at the Preschool even more enjoyable.
The community feel this gives, whilst we’re having such events, is brilliant! – as are the friendships made at preschool between children and their parents too.
